After deliberation, the jury of the Prix Découvertes RFI 2019 has delivered its verdict: Congolese Céline Banza wins this new edition.
Singer, videographer, actress, performer: Céline Banza is all of this. A curious and versatile artist who is only 22 years old and has already inspired a short film in 2017, Tamuzi , where she plays her own role.
But above all, there is music, the song. It is within the Studios Kabako with the choreographer-dancer Faustin Linyekula, in the east of the DRC, that Céline Banza takes her first steps as a singer. She frequents dancers, rappers and goes on stage, her first scene at the French alliance of Kisangani. Back in Kinshasa, her birthplace, she joined the National Institute of Arts.
In 2017, she also participated in the show The Voice Francophone Africa which reinforces her desire to start a musical career and sets a goal for her: that of gradually climbing the steps and occupy the front of the stage. She then creates her band Banza Musik. With this award from RFI, it is indeed a new impetus that is given to the young Congolese and the encouragement of the profession on the path she has chosen. Each year, RFI organizes the contest Discoveries to promote young talents of African music. A contest that over the years has revealed artists for some icons of African music as Tiken Jah Fakoly, Rokia Traore, Didier Awadi, Amadou & Mariam and last year the young singer Yvan Buravan .
