It sounds like 60-70s when you open the door to the small rep room. A keyboard that brings to mind Procol Harum, a guitar sound reminiscent of a time when Robby Krieger played guitar in The Doors.

The year is not 1969 and none of the eight band members of Children of the Sün were even envisioned when hundreds of thousands of music-loving youth gathered outside Bethel New York.

- We usually say that we were born the wrong century. We should have lived in the late 60's. We dress like that, we listen to that music and play that music, ”says Josefina Ekholm Berglund.

Big idol

Josefina Ekholm Berglund's voice is catching on and it feels like you're in that muddy field in the USA festival summer -69 again. There is no doubt where Josefina and her band members took the inspiration from.

- My biggest sources of inspiration in the song were living at that time. Janis Joplin is my big idol.

The voice as an instrument

At his side, Josefina has her sister Ottilia and Wilma Ås who drive. Together, their voices create a fine-tuned but powerful singing instrument.

- We spend a lot of time on the harmonies and on letting them merge. Our singing instrument is never forgotten but gets an obvious role in our songs, says Wilma.

"Dared not ask"

The search for their own hippie-inspired sound began in a school corridor in Arvika. Some young people sat and jammed on the breaks, wanted to start a soul band. They got gigs at the school's music cafe ...

- ... and then we knew there was a guitarist in high school. It was Jacob playing with us now. But we were so nervous and didn't dare ask him if he wanted to join because he was the coolness factor himself, Josefina says and laughs.

Release vinyl

Ida Wahl who plays bass, Anna Nilsson on piano and Josefina went in nine when the band came along. Now three years later, they are eight young people playing in Children of the Sün. Arvika is the band's obvious residence, although some have migrated in from Årjäng, Eda and Kil. In 2018, the band won the national finals in the Live Carousel and this summer released their first album Flowers. Of course, it is released, in good 70s spirit, on vinyl.

- It works so well with our genre, it was only given, says Wilma and laughs.

And that the genre is still alive and in demand. In fact, Children of the Sün debut album sells at its best in Germany and the United Kingdom.
