Fifa President Gianni Infantino plans to travel "very soon" to Iran to attend a league game where spectators will be admitted, it was reported Wednesday.

Infantino recently sent a letter to the Iranian Football Federation expressing his intention to travel to Iran to attend a match in the stands and spectators, according to a source familiar with the matter.

For the first time in nearly 40 years, on October 10, several thousand women were able to support at Iran's Azadi stadium Iran's national team against Cambodia in qualifying for the World Cup-2022.

After the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Iranian women were denied access to stadiums for men's football competitions, ostensibly to protect them from male crudity.

FIFA, which sent a delegation for the October 10 match, said it was looking "now more than ever for a future where ALL girls and women wishing to attend football matches in Iran will be free to do so". .

For this visit whose date has not yet been set, Mr. Infantino this time attend a league match where FIFA also push for women to be admitted.

The world body of football hopes that the process of allowing women in stadiums in Iran "be prolonged, do not stop and there is no reverse", according to another source.

A FIFA delegation must go to Tehran in advance to prepare for Mr. Infantino's trip.
