US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said after talks with Qatari Secretary of State for Defense Khaled al-Attiyah in Washington that the unity of the Gulf Cooperation Council is vital to counter the destabilizing behavior of the Iranian regime as he put it.

Pompeo said in a tweet on Twitter that he thanked al-Attiyah for Qatar's partnership with the United States.

Al-Attiyah met with Pompeo at the US State Department on Tuesday and discussed with him issues of mutual interest and strategic relations between the two countries. The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the region.

Following his talks with the Qatari minister, Pompeo held talks with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir on bilateral and regional cooperation.

Pompeo expressed his gratitude for the Saudi role in "facilitating an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Yemen and the Southern Transitional Council."
