The rules adopted by Poland regarding the retirement age of judges and that establishes, among others, different ages for men and women, "oppose the law of the European Union," the court of justice of the EU.

The court, which was requested by the European Commission, also considered illegal the power granted to the Minister of Justice to extend the term of the judges, in this controversial reform of the Polish judicial system.
