Puppies smuggled across the border to Sweden sometimes die prematurely due to illnesses or congenital malformations. Many times the puppies are in poor condition when sold after growing up in misery and difficult transport conditions.

The dogs often lack basic vaccination protection and can carry hidden diseases. In some cases, they are taken from their mother prematurely and not given all the vaccines they should have, which can lead to illnesses.

Offers counterfeit certificates

SVT's Document from the inside went to Poland and set out to buy puppies for entry into Sweden.

With a hidden camera, they capture how breeders offer both counterfeit vaccine certificates and that the puppies' age should be written down.

- We don't have rabies here. It's just an EU rule, says one of the breeders.

The entire first part of Documents from inside the reportage Loved smuggling dogs can be seen on SVT Play. The second part will be published on November 12.
