To win the ballot, candidates needed to get over 50 percent of the vote or stand alone as nominees. During Monday afternoon, each nominee received his or her speech.

A total of seven people were nominated to take over the presidency. These were Labor members Rosie Winterton, Chris Bryant, Harriet Harman, Meg Hillier and Lindsay Hoyle.

Among the nominees were also two Tory members: Edward Leigh, Eleanor Laing.
