A British violinist who had forgotten in a train his 310 year old violin, worth 250,000 pounds (about 290,000 euros), has recovered his precious instrument, said Monday the British police.
"The violin has been returned," the British Transport Police (BTP) told AFP, which had published the image of a surveillance camera showing a man she suspected of having found and taken the instrument.
Soloist Stephen Morris rejoiced on Twitter to have found his violin, "back home safe and sound". He published a photo of him kissing his instrument, made by the German luthier David Tecchler in 1709.
He had forgotten it on the evening of October 22 in a train from London Victoria Station to Orpington, south-east London.
According to the BBC, Stephen Morris was contacted directly on Twitter, after the publication of the police, by someone who claimed to know the suspect. A meeting was organized on Friday evening in a supermarket car park, where the violin was returned to him under the supervision of plainclothes policemen.
The man "apologized and said that he wanted to give it to me in person," Morris told the BBC, who played on film scores like "The Lord of the Rings" and " James Bond ", as well as David Bowie or Stevie Wonder.
According to the police, no prosecution will be brought against this man.
