- I think the clearest but also perhaps the most important result is that half of those who were informed that they needed to attend summer school to get part of the summer job were approved already during the semester, says Oliver Rosengren (M), chairman of the committee for work and welfare.

Six students combined summer school and summer jobs

The evaluation carried out by the municipality shows that 747 young people were applying for holiday jobs this year. 160 of the applications were dropped immediately because they were incomplete or of the wrong age.

21 young people who applied did not have approved grades in Swedish and math.

But eleven of them managed to get approved before the semester ended. Four students refused and six students combined summer school and summer jobs.

Great administrative apparatus

The Social Democrats continue to be critical of the reform with grading requirements and also think it takes too much resources.

- It's a pretty big administrative device to find these six people. I believe in working with volunteers and motivating students to choose summer school themselves and being able to work, says Tomas Thornell (S), 2nd Vice Chairman of the Work and Welfare Committee.

Tomas Thornell (S), 2nd Deputy Chairman of the Work and Welfare Committee.

Oliver Rosengren (M) does not agree that it is too resource intensive.

- To follow up and be careful is good and it is clear that it takes some resources, but it is worth the resources. Requirements are to care and we care most about these young people, he says.

The toughest requirement in the country

Växjö Municipality now has the toughest requirements in the country when young people are to apply for holiday jobs. In most municipalities, it is enough to be written in the municipality and have the right age.

In addition to approved grades in mathematics and Swedish, or to attend summer school, there is already a requirement for students to write CVs, personal letters and apply for jobs in the regular labor market.

- The greenhouse promise summer is here to stop. The requirement is to show that you care and we care most about these young people, says Oliver Rosengren (M).

The Social Democrats remain critical of the reform.

- I am convinced that those who attend high school want approved grades. I don't think it has to do with whether or not they should get a summer job, says Tomas Thornell (S), 2nd Vice Chairman of the Work and Welfare Committee.
