A man from Gästrikland sought care for his lung disease. He had suffered a lung collapse and was cared for in the lung ward at Gävle Hospital.

After three months, however, had pain between the shoulder blades and it turned out that the patient had lung cancer, something that had been missed at a previous X-ray at another hospital.

The man received chemotherapy but died in his tumor a month later.

- The patient changes the care unit several times and it is unfortunate that important medical records are missed between the health care institutions. I regret this and cannot rule out that diagnosis and treatment three months earlier had, although not cured, extended his life, says John Mälstam, chief physician of Region Gävleborg.

Region Gävleborg has now submitted a notification according to Lex Maria to the Inspection for Health and Care.
