Over 200 people detained during protests in Hong Kong


Hong Kong police detained more than 200 people who took part in the protests on Saturday, November 2. Protesters were detained for possession of weapons, damage to infrastructure and illegal gatherings.

“During the operation to disperse the protests, police used tear gas, rubber and plastic bullets to stop the illegal actions of the protesters. As of 1:00 on November 3 (06:00 Moscow time), more than 200 people were detained for illegal gatherings, possession of weapons for an attack, criminal damage and covering up a person during illegal gatherings, ”RIA Novosti quoted the local police as saying.

The agency also said that violent protests and acts of vandalism occurred on Saturday in many areas of Hong Kong. According to law enforcement agencies, the protesters were robbing and setting fire to shops, causing damage to public infrastructure.

In September, media reported that more than 100 people were detained as a result of riots in Hong Kong, which were accompanied by clashes between protesters and police.

Anti-government protests continue in Hong Kong for several months. Authorities announced a decision to withdraw the extradition bill, which led to riots.
