Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that the situation is explosive on all fronts and blamed the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) for firing rockets at Israeli settlements adjacent to the Gaza Strip.

At the start of the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu said that Israel was facing a highly sensitive period and considered that the security situation it faced could explode in more than one front; in the east (Iran) and the north (Syria and Lebanon) and the south (Gaza).

He said that Hamas is responsible for any attack launched from the territory of the Gaza Strip towards Israel, adding that Israel continues to work on all fronts to protect the security of the State of Israel, noting that he will not speak publicly about Israel's military plans.

Netanyahu said he had instructed the army immediately after the rocket fire from Gaza to launch attacks on a number of targets inside the Strip, describing the Israeli response as a strong attack.

On the pretext of firing 10 rockets from the Gaza Strip on Friday evening, Israeli warplanes launched several raids on resistance positions in the northern and southern Gaza Strip, killing Ahmed Al-Shahri, 27, in Khan Younis.

Hamas responded by warning the Israeli occupation of the consequences of the military escalation, saying it could lead to confrontation with the Palestinian resistance.

In his speech today at his weekly cabinet meeting, the Israeli prime minister touched on the issue of Israeli prisoners held by Hamas, saying that Israel continues to make efforts to recover them.

He expressed his full confidence in the work of the Coordinator of Prisoners and Missing Persons in his government, Yaron Blum, especially after the attack on him by the mother of one of the missing soldiers in Gaza, accusing him of deceiving the families of the captured soldiers.
