A woman has died this midday after a glass of a palm tree fell on her while she was walking around the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca. The victim was at that time with her partner and daughter, a minor who has been transferred to the hospital due to the injuries she has suffered.
The palm would have fallen due to the strong wind that hits the Balearic capital this Sunday. An ambulance of 061, the Firefighters of Palma and the Local Police, who have fenced the area where the tragic accident occurred, has moved to the scene.
Agents from the homicide group have also moved to the area to investigate the facts and try to clarify what happened, as reported by the National Police.
The Balearic Islands record wind gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour on Sunday, according to the State Metereology Agency (Aemet). Due to the storm, the palm tree cup would have yielded and fallen on the woman, who has died from the severe trauma.
