- It feels wonderfully exciting, Inga-Maj Andersson, vice chairman of the hometown association, who spent Saturday fixing a stage for the guests and seating for the children.

Drag Queen Story consists of two characters, Lady Busty and Miss Shameless, who tell stories for children focused on breaking norms. The purpose is to show everyone's equal value and to teach children to accept those who are different.

"I was thinking wow"

The performance has been booked by Malin Håkansson, formerly a cultural coordinator at Sölvesborg municipality.

- I saw an article about it and thought wow, this we must have. They have received very good criticism, she says.

The libraries in the municipality of Sölvesborg are undergoing a LGBT certification through RFSL.

- It felt like a natural step in this.

At the same time, Sölvesborg's attitude to LGBTQ issues has been the subject of extensive debate after the municipality's leading politicians stopped the Pride flag from being hoisted at the City Hall.

- This really has nothing to do with that debate, because we booked it already this spring, says Malin Håkansson.

- But it is a good idea to show that we at Culture and library in Sölvesborg stand for love and tolerance.

Positive reactions

Have you received any reactions to the booking?

- I thought, well now all the comments will come, but it was much fewer than I thought. And only positive reactions.

Around 40 people were present at the village farm, of which a dozen were children.

- Many children were shy at first. But in the end they tried hats, wigs and tinsel. It was a great atmosphere, says Malin Håkansson.
