A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hits the South Sandwich Islands

It is reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter was located 125 km northeast of the island of Vysoky, which is part of the archipelago. The hearth lay at a depth of about 10 km.

There is no permanent population on the islands.

On October 23, an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 was also reported at South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.
