A truck stopped for routine checks in southern France, near the border with Italy, had 31 Pakistani citizens in its container. The driver, who was also from Pakistan, was arrested by French police while the migrants were transferred to Italian authorities in accordance with current regulations.

The discovery follows the tragedy in the UK on October 23. Then 39 people were found dead in a refrigerated container, which shed new light on the life-threatening migrant routes into Europe and the human traffickers who traffic them.

"We will try to trace this back to a network, which we always do in this type of case," states the prosecutor's office in French Nice.
