“We are talking about counseling and training for the Iraqi Armed Forces on the maintenance of equipment that may have been produced in the Soviet era or after that, but such that our experts understand,” the minister quotes Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, this is a "non-combat mission", which takes place in the rear.

Zagorodniuk said that up to a dozen Ukrainians can stay in such a mission in Iraq. According to the Minister, negotiations are underway regarding possible participation in the mission.

In June 2018, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance and the EU decided to increase their presence in Iraq.

He noted that the EU’s mission is to “focus on ensuring civil security,” and NATO will “train instructors for the army.”
