US President Donald Trump has announced that he will move his permanent residence from New York to Palm Beach, Florida, saying he was “treated very badly” in his home city.

"We will make my family and I, Palm Beach, Florida, our permanent residence," the president wrote yesterday on Twitter.

"I am proud of New York and the people of New York, and I will always be, but unfortunately, although I pay millions of dollars in city, state and state taxes every year, I have been treated very badly by city and state political officials."

In addition to the White House, the Trump family will be based in the Maralago resort, where the president has spent 99 days since taking office, compared with 20 days at his former president's Trump Tower headquarters. "New York will always have a special place in my heart," the president tweeted.

There is a dispute between Republican Trump and New York Mayor Bill de Palacio and state governor Andrew Como, both Democrats.

"We rested from you," state governor Andrew Como wrote in a tweet on Twitter.

De Palacio also used Twitter, saying, "Filter quickly, you are not sorry."
