Bezpalko spoke about three main reasons for Ukraine’s interest in expanding relations with NATO.

“The first is the political course that was laid by Petro Poroshenko and which consists in moving to the West. The second is a demonstration to the population that Ukraine is a successful state that, on an equal footing, concludes agreements and cooperates with such powerful blocs as NATO. The third is an attempt to get some material resources, ”Bezpalko believes.

He suggested that Ukraine, in particular, could offer its territory for intelligence activities.

The expert pointed out that in the near future the Ukrainian side should not expect to receive the requested “priority” status of relations with NATO.

“(Ukraine. - RT ) they will thank for the desire for cooperation, promise to expand it, perhaps they will emphasize the importance of the struggle of Ukraine for its territorial integrity ... But they will not promise and do anything concrete. So far, cooperation between NATO and its main beneficiary - the United States - is very limited, ”the political scientist added.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Dmitry Kuleba spoke about the plans of the Ukrainian side to obtain the status of a member of the partnership of expanded capabilities in NATO.
