Chile has given up hosting the international climate conference because of the social crisis that is shaking the country.

The international conference on climate, COP25, will be held in Spain in early December, instead of Chile, which gave up because of the social crisis that shakes the country, announced the UN Friday.

"We are pleased to announce that the COP Bureau has agreed that # COP25 will take place from December 2 to 13 in Madrid, Spain," said Patricia Espinosa, UN Climate Officer.

25,000 delegates expected for COP 25

Chilean President Sebastian Piñera announced Wednesday that his country, struggling with a social protest that does not falter, renounced to host the COP 25 in December, as well as the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), which was to to take place in Santiago mid-November. The UN, plunged into uncertainty by this brutal withdrawal, said Wednesday that it "studied alternatives" to host the COP25.

Thursday, Sebastia Piñera had announced that the head of the Spanish government Pedro Sanchez had "generously offered to organize the COP25 in Madrid on the same dates that this conference was scheduled in Chile". The Spanish Government had confirmed this proposal, given "the short time available and the importance of ensuring that COP25 is held normally", and Patricia Espinosa supported it.

About 25,000 delegates, including young Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, were expected in Santiago from 2 to 13 December for COP 25.
