It was on October 23 that police made the macabre discovery in a truck parked in an industrial area in Essex near London. There were 39 dead bodies in the cargo compartment. Initially, the police theory was that the victims were Chinese migrants. But after a few days, reports came that several families in Vietnam had contacted the Vietnamese Embassy in London and asked for help to find out if their relatives were among the victims.

Now the police confirm that the victims were probably Vietnamese.

"We are in contact with a number of families in Vietnam and we believe that we have now identified families of some of the victims," Essex police wrote on Twitter.
