31 October 2019Democracy is vulnerable and deeply threatened by the digital revolution because the "transfer of the power of mediation", in the past entrusted to intermediate bodies, has been underestimated today "to those who manage the platforms and direct the behavior of the consumer and also of the voter". Talking about this is the Privacy Guarantor Antonello Soro, author of the book 'Democracy and data power. Freedom, algorithms, digital humanism ', presented in Rome at Palazzo Wedekind. A theme dear to the Guarantor for privacy, which has strongly underlined during its mandate, now on expiry.

Look to the East
The problems deriving from the advent of digital technology "cannot be tackled at national level. The topic we are talking about today needs to be tackled at a global level. We can start from the European one, as the United States of Europe. Power is developing today - it has concluded - in a global dimension that has as its protagonists not only the big American companies but also the Chinese companies. Faced with this the traditional European democracy risks being late. Perhaps we should use more the strength of our right, but also the possibility of moving all together. Only in the European, supranational dimension can we play the game of defining new borders for democracy and freedom ".
