On Thursday, the government announced a series of 23 measures for the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, including the introduction of a bonus of 10,000 euros for officials, provided they remain at least five years in office. An insufficient measure, according to the English teacher Gabriel Lattanzio, invited from Europe 1.

REACTION

This is one of the flagship measures of the plan unveiled Thursday by the government for the Seine-Saint-Denis: the award of a bonus of 10,000 euros to officials provided they stay at least five years in office. This measure aims to retain these officials, but does not convince all concerned, like Gabriel Lattanzio, English teacher at Paul-Robert des Lilas high school. "We are not at the height with this figure," he says at the microphone of Europe 1.

REACTION - Seine-Saint-Denis: "The only financial measures are not enough", considers the mayor of Clichy-sous-Bois

"If we look at the loss of attractiveness of the teaching profession, it is not at all the height," laments the teacher. "Of course, 10,000 euros is impressive, but we must see the conditions under which we will give them," he adds, recalling that "for 30 years, the purchasing power of teachers has really declined ".

"There are human needs on the ground"

For Gabriel Lattanzio, the government measure is "quite limited". "There are human needs on the ground," he recalls. "When you have classes with 35 students, you do the job all the less easily." However, he believes, "the government has not decided to act at this level."

"What is needed is to recognize that the conditions of recruitment, of remuneration, of a teacher, is the quality of student study," he says again. And to conclude: "That's the subject, the working conditions, the job as such, and not just a bonus that will take place perhaps once for a while, with a problem that will rest later" .
