The proposal is an exercise and comes from Ragnar Lindberg (S), chair of the education board. Smålandsposten reports that staff working in kitchens in school and elderly care could be given the opportunity.

In the motion Lindberg writes that the purpose of letting staff buy leftover meals is to reduce food waste but also that more people should be able to take part of the food being cooked.

Exactly how much food is thrown in the kitchen has not been mapped. At present, only simpler studies have been done in the school's dining rooms.
