The accident occurred in March last year on County Road 924 at Bergsäng between Hagfors and Ekshärad. The man - who had to be cut out of the car - was charged with wrongdoing to the death of another (serious crime), gross negligence in traffic, and gross drunkenness.

Sentenced for serious abuse

The man, who is 50 years of age, is also sentenced in the High Court for gross misconduct by a 21-year-old man found dead in Hagfors in the summer of 2018. That verdict now takes Värmland's district court into consideration when determining the sanction after the fatal accident.

The judgment states: Applying the so-called Asperation Principle (see Chapter 34, Section 2 of the Criminal Code), the total penalty value for the serious abuse as well as the crimes for which xx is now convicted would be considered equivalent to imprisonment for two years and nine months. Therefore, the sentence should now be sentenced to imprisonment for one year and three months.

The man must also pay damages to the deceased woman's relatives for a total of SEK 180,000.
