On Tuesday, the nurse couple Emma Andersson and Billy Ludvigsson from Trollhättan were out on a snorkelling trip on the Whitsunday Islands in Australia. But the boat trip came to an abrupt end.

- Someone yelled "Shark shark, please help me". And we saw that there was a man screaming and one of the instructors took his paddle boat and got him up on the board. As they got closer we saw that the man was missing a foot, it was completely gone, says Emma Andersson.

"We focused on stopping the bleeding"

She says the couple immediately started calling for towels to stop the bleeding while the captain speeded the boat to drive back to shore.

- We didn't think much, the focus was to stop the bleeding, says Emma.

Both Emma and Billy are ambulance nurses in Trollhättan everyday and this is not the first time they see an injured body. But despite that, the event has shaken them.

- All emotions bubbled up later when we were ourselves. The idea of sharing water with a shark is scary. I think it will be difficult to snorkel again without imagining the shark in front of her, says Emma.

"He was very grateful"

Emma says that the Englishman was grateful for the couple's efforts.

- He was so grateful, we hugged each other and have not been seen since then but I have been told that he is doing well. He had a great sense of humor and was most annoyed that he couldn't parachute the next day, she says.

On Friday the couple returns home to Trollhättan.

- Today we just lay by the pool and rested. It is a huge relief to be back unharmed. Then we are impressed with how the organization for the snorkelling tour handled the event. Everyone moved in and helped. It has been a fantastic chain, ”says Emma Andersson.
