As a reason for the closure, the airline states that domestic traffic faces a number of what are called "challenges". Specifically, it is declining economic activity, air tax and the debate on the climate impact of aviation.

According to SAS, the Örnsköldsvik-Arlanda airline has been hit hard by declining demand. Therefore, the line ends February 1, 2020.

Recently resumed

The flights resumed as late as last year after nine years of absence and were first reported to go well. But now SAS believes that the positive development has stopped and turned around. Together with the airport and the region, the company has tried to reverse the development without success.

“Unfortunately, the trend has continued in the wrong direction and we continue to see declining demand and poor profitability. This is something SAS sincerely regrets because we know how important aviation is and what it means for accessibility. We understand that many are disappointed with the message, not least the local business community. We have done what we have been able to do, but can not do more under prevailing conditions, ”says Freja Annamatz, SAS's press manager in a press release.

Passengers who have already purchased tickets will be offered rebuilding via Umeå or to get the money back.
