30 October 2019 The first meeting of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the death of Giulio Regeni, the young Italian researcher brutally killed in Egypt in 2016, will be held on Wednesday 20 November at 2.30pm.

This is reported at the end of the Conference of Montecitorio group leaders. The election of the chairman of the commission and the related bureau will be held there.

Three years
Giulio Regeni, an Italian citizen and doctoral student at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, was conducting research on independent trade unions in Egypt in the post-2011 period when Hosni Mubarak's government ended. He was in Cairo to carry out his research when, on January 25th 2016, the fifth anniversary of the "January 25th Revolution" disappeared.

His body, with obvious signs of torture, was found nine days later, on February 3rd, in a ditch on the edge of the Cairo-Alessandria motorway. Since then a large campaign has started and thousands of people, organizations, schools, media have exhibited banners with the request for truth for Giulio Regeni.
