Greta Thunberg herself was not present at the gala at the Concert Hall in Stockholm when she is in the US. But climate activists Sofia Axelsson and Isabella Axelsson represented her during the evening - among other things by reading a speech from Greta Thunberg where she declined the award.

“I'm currently traveling through California, so I can't attend today. I would like to thank the Nordic Council for this award, it is a great honor. But the climate movement does not need any more prices, what we need is for our rulers and politicians to listen to the research. ”

Other nominees for the environmental award were the organizations Grim, Ekoenergy, Guðrun & Guðrun, Plastic not so fantastic, Aftur and Emmaus Åland.

A total of five prizes were awarded during the gala, in the categories literature, children's and youth literature, film, music and environment. The price sum for each of the five categories is DKK 350,000, about SEK 500,000.
