Marine Le Pen described as "attack" and "unspeakable act, absolutely contrary" to the values ​​of the National Rally, shooting that caused two serious injuries Monday in front of the mosque of Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

"The attack on #Bayonne's mosque is an unspeakable act that is absolutely contrary to all the values ​​of our movement," the RN boss wrote in a tweet.

The suspect arrested is Claude Sinké, 84, according to a source close to the investigation. He had been a candidate of the National Front (now RN) in 2015 in the county elections of the canton of Seignanx (Landes), according to the official lists.

"These crimes must be treated with the utmost severity", continues Marine Le Pen.

"We had no contact with (the suspect) for months, and before, in meetings, he was put out by our DPS", the party's security services, said an official of the RN interviewed by the AFP. "The RN condemns with the greatest firmness this criminal act", he continued.

Two men were seriously injured by gunfire fired in front of the mosque by a man who was attempting to burn the door. The latter was arrested soon after at his home in the Landes, according to the prefecture of Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
