Citizens and residents have confirmed to Emirates Today that informing the security authorities about serious crimes is a national duty that is the responsibility of all members of society. But this does not apply to minor crimes, which can be overlooked, in order to assist the perpetrators, or the desire to relieve them.

They explained that they find themselves witnesses to committing some minor crimes or misdemeanors, such as begging, violating residency, traffic laws, throwing residues on the highway, and others, but they are reluctant to report the perpetrators out of compassion and sympathy.

For its part, the Ministry of Interior warned against leniency with the perpetrators of all kinds of crimes, calling for reporting behaviors that threaten the security and safety of society, out of concern to participate in strengthening efforts to prevent crime.

In detail, citizens and residents, who declined to be named, said that in some situations they sympathized with beggars, stopping them in the streets and public places for help, provided them with money, and refused to report them, in sympathy with them and their humanitarian situation.

They stated that they monitored several traffic violations on the roads, most notably the indiscriminate parking of taxis on the road to load or disembark passengers, but they did not immediately report them, fearing that this category of low-income drivers would be damaged or lest they end. Others also pointed out that they are providing assistance to laborers and workers who reside in the residency by employing them and assisting them, believing that some of them have been pushed by circumstances to violate, and do not report them to the security authorities out of charity.

On the other hand, the Director of the Office of Culture of Respect for Law, Colonel Abdullah Al Shamsi, stressed the importance of the role of members of society in combating crime, and the participation of the efforts of security personnel in promoting the spread of safety and tranquility and prevention of crime.

He said that «there is a general sense of community members of the responsibility of the community, which leads them to intervene and report the crime when they monitor it, but there are crimes that do not have such a feeling, such as crimes against the law of residence, or traffic crimes, or some minor misdemeanors, such as begging or "Simple theft, or cybercrime committed on social media."

Al-Shamsi added that «the Ministry of Interior, through its awareness campaigns, to enhance the awareness of members of the community of the importance of reporting crimes, incidents and all negative manifestations, whatever the size, and is keen to introduce them to the means of communication with them, pointing out that« it is linked to social responsibility, public order In the state ».

He warned against sympathy for the perpetrators of crimes, calling for recognizing «dangerous security dimensions of crimes that many think simple, or unworthy, such as the crime of begging, which is considered by some as not to expose people to circumstances that made them in need, while the fact that this crime is dangerous, it does not offend "The bright face of civilization is not only the state, but also an outlet for fraud."

Al-Shamsi urged members of the community to communicate with the ministry and the general leadership of the police, which allows to receive security, community and traffic information, in various languages ​​over 24 hours, explaining that these services deal with confidentiality with the information received from the whistleblowers, as they are referred to the competent authorities in police stations and departments , Which in turn follow up and take action, which contributes to enhancing security, stability and crime prevention.

«Safe Community»

The Federal Public Prosecution provides a “safe community” application, which provides a service to report any crime, suspicion through social media, disturbs public security, threatens the security of society and public morals, or situations that have a negative impact on public opinion.

The application aims to activate community participation in providing protection against cybercrime, by communicating through this service with the Office of the Attorney General of the State.

The service ensures complete confidentiality in receiving information and the identity of the notified persons.

Aman Service

Aman is a security communication channel that receives security, community and traffic information in Arabic, English and Urdu.

It operates around the clock, allowing members of the community to contribute to the prevention of crimes before they occur, with complete confidentiality, through the information they give through the available communication channels, such as toll-free number 8002626 (AMAN2626) or through text messages on 2828, or via e-mail aman@adpolice.gov.ae, or through the Smart App of the Abu Dhabi Police General Command.
