Pope Francis celebrated Sunday, October 27 the closing Mass of the Synod on the Amazon in St. Peter's Basilica. The sovereign pontiff reminded that it was important to listen to " the cry of the poor " that was at the heart of these three weeks of synod.

They are natives who opened the procession of entrance of this mass, as to recall that it is indeed these people on which the catholic Church looked for three weeks.

In his homily, the Pope returned to this " disfigured face of the Amazon " in his words, denouncing " the mistakes of the past that were not enough to stop destroying others and inflict injuries on our brothers and sister earth, "an expression of St. Francis of Assisi.

The Pope also castigated " the religion of the self " and " forgetfulness of the neighbor " who may be watching some Christians. But it is of course this " cry of the poor ", one of the strong expressions of the synod , on which he stopped.

" During this synod, we had the grace to listen to the voices of the poor and reflect on the precariousness of their lives, threatened by models of predatory development," said François. Many have testified that it is possible to look at reality differently, welcoming it openly as a gift, considering creation not as a means to be exploited, but as a house to be protected, trusting in God. . "

Many times, including in the Church, this voice of the poor is put aside because it is embarrassing, regretted Francis, who hopes that this Amazonian synod will have opened eyes, in the Church but also beyond .
