In the village of Ain al-Beida, near the city of Jarablus, east of Aleppo in northern Syria, large explosions were caused by the aerial bombardment of cars and vehicles, killing several people, according to eyewitnesses from the area.

Local sources told Al Jazeera that planes, believed to be part of the International Coalition, launched air strikes on several cars near the city of Jarablus on Sunday evening, targeting a leader of the Islamic State believed to be the spokesman Abu Hassan al-Muhajir.

The sources pointed out that two cars and a truck dedicated to transporting crude oil were targeted by a raid on a branch road between the villages of Ain al-Beida and Yusuf Beik, south of the city of Jarablus, during which about five people were killed, one of whom was hiding inside the bus dedicated to transporting oil.

The vehicles were from the city of Manbij, which is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces, which is dominated by Kurdish units, and is heading towards the northern countryside of Aleppo. They were targeted less than an hour after entering the opposition-held areas near the Aoun al-Dadat crossing between the two sides.

A military source from the Northern Brigade of the Syrian National Army in the city of Jarablus said that reconnaissance aircraft flew all day over the countryside of Jarablus over a continuous period, and then at exactly 7:30 pm, raids targeted several vehicles.

The source confirmed that several people were killed and their bodies were charred and unrecognized, and one of them was hiding inside the oil truck. They were said to be leaders of ISIS, but it is not possible to say for sure that the bodies were completely mutilated and fragmented by the intensity of the shelling, after examining the location of the raid.

Continuing the previous operation, terrorist Abu al-Hassan al-Muhajir, the right-hand man of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and an ISIS spokesman, was targeted in the village of Ain al-Baydah, near Jarablus, in direct coordination between the SDF intelligence and the US military.

According to reports by Syrian activists from and around the city of Jarablus, the target is a senior ISIS official believed to be Abu al-Hassan al-Muhajir or his personal associate, according to social media.

The SDF also announced through its commander-in-chief, Mazloum Abdi, that they provided intelligence to the international coalition, which in turn carried out a raid that claimed the lives of Abu Hassan al-Muhajir.

The development came hours after US President Donald Trump announced the death of ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in a covert military operation by helicopter special forces in the village of Barisha, north of Idlib.
