In Algeria, the organizing authority, ANIE, announced on Sunday (October 27th) that ten commissions would examine the candidacies of the 22 candidates in the presidential election of December 12th. The list of validated applications will be made public next Sunday at the latest, said the authority.

If the election is announced, those who protest continue to say that they oppose its holding. The assurances of transparency of the ballot seem to have a hard time convincing. For if an independent election authority has been appointed, it is headed by a former minister of Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

The process of dialogue of the summer had to have as counterpart, according to the members of the instance, the release of the young people imprisoned for Berber flag carrying or sign. However, more than a hundred people are still in pre-trial detention, some since 21 June.

In this context of distrust, even if Algerians want the presidential election to be held, the electoral campaign promises to be eventful. During field visits in recent months, ministers were booed or even driven out of certain places by the inhabitants.

And finally, the mobilization of Algerians could put pressure on the holding of this election and on the candidates themselves, as in April and July. And this week, calls for mobilization were launched by independent unions, magistrates, but also to the entire population for Friday, November 1.
