British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is gearing up to grant Chinese Huawei access to the UK's future 5G network and ARM, the chip maker, will complete the chip supply, the Sunday Times newspaper reported.

Senior government and security services sources said the UK was moving towards a decision that would allow Huawei to access "undisputed" parts of the network. The newspaper said that this would cause a rift in the relationship with the United States because it banned the Chinese company because of concerns that Huawei close to Chinese intelligence.

On the other hand, ARM said it decided to continue to provide Huawei chips designs after the British company legal team decided that the technology of the chips of Huawei of British origin and not Chinese.

"The eighth version of the ARM and the V8 and V9 (V9 and V8) are of British origin," Aram's spokeswoman told Reuters by e-mail.

According to the statement, ARM could provide support to Huawei for the current V8 designs, as well as for the next generation of those designs, after a thorough review of the design assets identified as being from the UK.

Huawei's special chips such as the Kirin 990 processors and the Ascend 910 AI chipset are based on the Arm design.

Japan's Softbank Group, owner of Britain's Arm, suspended ties with Huawei after the United States banned US companies from dealing with the technology giant.

But thanks to this clarification, Arm can do legal work with Huawei, but it is not yet clear whether the US ban will affect the designs of the chip after the next generation of "V8".
