26 October 2019The US Department of Defense has chosen Microsoft for the mega ten-million-dollar cloud for its computer system, discarding Amazon who appeared to be the favored candidate. The choice is discussed, after the American president Donald Trump has thrown himself several times against the patron of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, owner of the Washington Post, a newspaper certainly not tender towards the tenant of the White House.

The cloud contract, known by the acronym Jedi (Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure) is the largest ever signed in the field of military computing and can potentially pave the way for other profitable deals in the US government. Amazon, the American media report, was considered a favorite, given that its Amazon Web Service (Aws) already deals with the management of confidential CIA data.

When the Pentagon announced last year that it would assign the contract to just one company, Amazon's main competitors - Microsoft, IBM, Oracle - started a campaign to push the government to break up the contract between several companies. Trump, who repeatedly attacked both Bezos and the Washington Post, had declared in July that he had asked his collaborators to examine the Jedi contract closely as he had received complaints from Microsoft's competitors.
