A number of Ica stores in Western Sweden have launched dog cages outside of their shops where the owner can leave the dog instead of having it in the car or tying it outside. SVT News West was on site in Vänersborg and tested on the cages - read the report here.

But in the store's own Facebook feed, the initiative has met mixed reactions.

"Good idea, but I would never put my dogs in a box".

"Rather a little trouble with double trips than a sad and stressed dog".

"Why can't they have an employee living dog keeper who works for a little money?"

But also: "When someone tries to do something good, it must be whined".

"Better with more parking spaces in the shade"

The dog owner and caretaker Sarah Schiller, who often has the whippet Maja with her, thinks that the dog parking poses risks for the dog.

- I'm really opposed to leaving their dog out of business at all, would rather see that they had more parking spaces with shade where you can leave them for a short while in a place that the dog is safe with, preferably some man should also remain in the car. The only advantage of the cages that I see is that you are not as easily at risk of the dog being stolen as it can otherwise be out of business.

Think people can kick and hit the cages

- My dog Maja probably thought the cage itself was okay, but I would never risk someone standing knocking on it and making her stress. She does not recognize herself there, nor does she feel at home in it.

She still thinks it's good that the stores think of dog owners and try to adapt.

- We dog owners often have the dog with us and this may suit some, but I had never left Maja in the cages precisely because of the mental stress it will be for her.
