The goal of this year's theme "Think Safely - Make Smart Things Secure" is to raise the awareness and competence of the general and small businesses in terms of password management, card details and links.

- In connection with this, we felt that we could also lift other forms of fraud that also happen via the network, says Malin Axroth, communicator at the police.

For three weeks, the police in Västerbotten focus on so-called romance fraud, investment fraud and card fraud. The main mantra? If someone calls and has a good offer, it's usually too good to be true.

- You should always pull your ears when an unknown person calls with such offers. That's not how it works, says Axroth.

Often large sums

She goes on to say that the police have received a lot of fraud reports, especially in recent times. In August alone, 230 cases were reported in the country, which according to Axroth is an avalanche increase.

- It is not uncommon for hundreds of thousands of kronor, but it can also be smaller amounts.

What to think when you get a tempting offer from someone you don't know?

- Source criticism, source criticism, source criticism. That's the key.
