Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that the Sochi agreement, which Turkey reached with Russia on northern Syria, is proceeding normally as planned.

He stressed that there had never been any human rights violations, chemical weapons or inhumane practices during Operation Spring Well, and that allegations of ethnic cleansing during Operation Spring had nothing to do with reality.

In a related context, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu held a telephone conversation with his US counterpart Mike Pompeo, during which they discussed the preparations for the upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Washington in the middle of next month and bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two ministers discussed Turkey's request from Washington to hand over the commander of the so-called "Syrian Democratic Forces" Mazloum Abdi if he traveled to the United States.

They also discussed developments in northern Syria following the Turkish-US and Turkish-Russian agreement on the withdrawal of so-called "Syrian Democratic Forces" from some areas there.

In the meantime, German Foreign Minister Heiko Mas is visiting Ankara, where he will meet his Turkish counterpart to discuss the Syrian crisis, the spring process and the safe area.

The visit comes at a time of heightened tension between the two countries, after Germany's opposition to the spring peace process, and demand Turkey to withdraw from Syria, and declare an arms embargo.

Ankara has accused Berlin of supporting Kurdish people's units, and facilitating the activity of what it described as terrorist organizations, led by the PKK on German soil, Ankara also demanded Berlin to stand with its NATO ally instead of supporting terrorist organizations.
