26 October 2019The Chilean Armed Forces announced the decision to suspend the curfew in various cities including Santiago de Chile, Valparaíso, Concepción, Coquimbo and Los Lagos.

In statements to Radio BioBio, Rear Admiral Carlos Huber explained that in essence this means that "we will keep vigilant during the night, but without the support of the curfew". The 15-day state of emergency, introduced last October 19, however, remains to be lifted, according to the Constitution, solely by President Sebastián Pinera who decreed it.

Meanwhile, the head of state welcomed "the massive, cheerful and peaceful march" which, according to media reports, collected 1.2 million people on the main avenues of Santiago yesterday.
