The preoccupation before a possible electoral collapse has ignited in the headquarters of Citizens. The small hard core of management tries to turn a deaf ear to the lousy forecasts that foresee a loss of up to 40 deputies - from the current 57 to 18 or less. On the contrary, they respond that the comeback is already taking place, according to their internal trackings , although still slightly.

Cs is facing one of his most difficult appointments, more complicated than the 2016 electoral repetition, when he fell from 40 to 32 seats. To address it, the management prepares an even more personalistic campaign than the previous ones, centered on its president, Albert Rivera, valuing its "main asset", which they say remains its candidate.

In Rivera's environment they denounce that the president of Cs has been a victim these months of "an unprecedented campaign" both from the rest of the parties and from the media. "And even from economic power," they add.

First, they relate to EL MUNDO , for maintaining its no is not Pedro Sánchez against the pressures of political, economic and media power. And then, after turning and announcing his unlocking proposal after the November 10 elections, for having lifted the veto to negotiate with Pedro Sánchez.

Management sources highlight that, despite the "attacks", Rivera maintains a very high assessment among citizens, as almost all surveys reflect. Therefore, Citizens will focus the pre-campaign on the figure of Rivera, even more than on previous occasions, and less on the brand, they confirm from the Standing Committee, the management nucleus closest to the leader.

In the April 28 campaign, Rivera's personal signings -Edmundo Bal, Marcos de Quinto or Sara Giménez , among others-, had a stellar role.

This week, however, it has been found that the orange formation prefers to focus all the spotlights on Rivera, which will have openings, but more focused on the territory - Juan Carlos Girauta in Toledo or Juan Marín in Córdoba this week. Or multiple in sectoral acts - Albert Boadella and Fernando Savater on Thursday to talk about nationalism or several women in an act on feminism today in Madrid.

The three pillars of the Citizens campaign will be Albert Rivera, with a new more moderate profile and more of a statesman; his unlocking proposal for government after 10-N, and "more Spain," patriotism against secessionism. These three ideas are synthesized in his image and in his pre-campaign motto: «Spain in progress».

Management sources believe that the two black weeks that Catalonia has lived, with unprecedented violence, benefit the orange party. «We were born in Catalonia against nationalism; we are the first party in Catalonia and we stand firm as the containment dam against secessionism », they stand out from the national headquarters of Cs, where the Catalan team that gathers around Rivera continues to compose it: José Manuel Villegas, Fernando de Páramo, José María Espejo-Saavedra, Francisco Hervías and Inés Arrimadas.

The Catalan crisis, they emphasize in Cs, can become "a reset " for them, although it has not yet been noticed in the polls.

The critics of Citizens, less and less out of focus, consider that Rivera's image "has worn out" in recent months, as one of them says in conversation with THE WORLD. First, because of the internal crisis; later, for the attacks that they consider to have occurred against him; Finally, because of the strategic turn of having passed from the no is not to reach out to the PSOE.

Focus on Arrimadas

Critics' sources believe that the campaign should focus more on Inés Arrimadas, especially because of the rise of the Catalan crisis, given that the spokeswoman for Citizens in Congress has not accused Rivera of the wear and tear.

In the direction they respond that Inés Arrimadas is having a leading role in this campaign similar to the one he already had in the 28-A . In fact, it is making trips and events throughout Spain and arriving where it is not planned to travel, in principle, Rivera, such as the Canary Islands or Galicia this week.

Arrimadas remains the most powerful image of Cs as a pillar of constitutionalism against independence. In addition, their ability to empathize with voters and supporters remains intact, as they recognize throughout the party.

The objective of Cs this campaign is to seduce as many as possible of those who voted orange on April 28 -4.14 million people. The objective to beat is the abstention and disenchantment generated by the electoral blockade and repetition. Cs will make an imaginative and crescendo mobilization campaign, with few rallies and innovative acts, which management does not want to advance yet.

The orange voter, they explain, is the most critical, volatile and least ideologized of the entire political spectrum, which makes this party in formation with a weaker and more unstable electoral base, below the two classic parties -PP and PSOE-, but also from Podemos, which has the traditional PCE electorate to the left of the PSOE.

Last key week

Discuss five . In the direction they calculate that more than half of their voters will make the decision to vote in the last week. This makes the last seven days before 10-N - which will start with the debate five on television - crucial.

Final sprint . That is why Albert Rivera is able to keep up with the April debates seems vital. After the debates of 28-A, the orange hard core considers that Cs rose almost two points, which placed him only eight tenths of the PP. This time, everyone agrees that it will be more difficult.
