“It would be great to implement such preventive work throughout Russia,” RIA Novosti quoted Mendelevich as saying.

According to him, a pilot project to identify a tendency to deviant behavior and drug use was carried out in Tatarstan in 2009.

After schoolchildren underwent testing to identify risk groups with those who were found to be addicted to drug use, "they worked by some methods, and by those who are not inclined, by others."

“It is important that we identified the tendency, and not the fact of consumption, respectively, proposed measures to solve the problem before it occurred,” Mendelevich said, noting that the project did not receive further progress.

Earlier it became known that the proportion of Russian youth aged 15 to 24 who do not study, work and acquire professional skills has reached a record low since 2001 - this figure fell by more than 5%.

It has also been reported that over the past 17 years, the average age when adolescents become addicted to alcohol, drugs and tobacco has increased by about 2-3 years.
