According to him, the forecasts take into account the contractual obligations of the Russian company, the volume of gas in storage and the commissioning of new gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine.

“Given all these factors, the incoming data, in order to fulfill its obligations, Gazprom will have to pump about 50 billion cubic meters through Ukraine,” he said.

However, he did not rule out the possibility of a temporary suspension of transit of Russian gas.

Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Aleksey Goncharuk noted that heating in some cities of Ukraine may arise if a new contract for the transit of Russian gas is not signed.

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, at a meeting with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, said the company had notified Ukraine of the need to resolve litigation before entering into a new contract.

As Miller pointed out, if an independent gas transmission operator and an independent regulator are not created in Ukraine by January 1, the only way will be to extend the existing contract in the new conditions.
