The discussion on Sölvesborg's policy for future art purchases remains relevant. Rolf Berg (SD), chairman of the leisure and cultural committee, has previously said, among other things:

- We will buy such art that appeals to the vast majority of citizens.

Set exhibition

During the week Sölvesborg's cultural festival is underway - where visitors can take part in Sölvesborg's cultural offerings in the form of art, theater and music. Artist Linnea Håkansson was to participate in the exhibition "Bloody Seriously" at the Parliament House, which is about body activism and menstruation, but it has now been canceled. The reason is that the artist feels censored.

- I was told that the municipality cannot show my art in all turbulence with politics. I was offered an alternative location, but declined because I felt it was censorship, ”she says.

The cultural coordinator Pernilla Weirum explains that it is about the municipality not wanting to steal attention from the awarding of the cultural prize.

- We offered another place that we found more appropriate and that would not draw attention from the awards ceremony, she says.

Long planning

For two months Linnea Håkansson had planned the exhibition. One week before the show, she was told that the organizers wanted to change the exhibition space.

- I was most sorry for not being able to show this to young people. Their decision barred the taboo that menses are somewhat embarrassing and ugly, says Linnea Håkansson.

Håkansson explains that she perceives the cultural awards ceremony as an explanation.

- My experience is that it is about the issue of human art and the political climate that prevails in Sölvesborg. I think this would mean a service error if the culture department chose to show my art.
