The mayor of Langouët, Daniel Cueff, wanted to ban the use of pesticides within 150 meters of homes. But the administrative court of Rennes prevents it.

For the administrative court of Rennes, a mayor does not have the power to make a decree on pesticide regulation, this is the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture. He therefore annulled the decree taken by Daniel Cueff on May 18th, which prohibited the use of synthetic pesticides within 150 m of the dwellings of his commune of Langouët.

Daniel Cueff said he was disappointed with this decision, considering that it was a question of " public health " and that the judgment had not focused on the substance of the case. " Today, the first reflex is the desire to appeal, because we consider that this decision is not right. We may wait until late October, early November, to see what will come out of the consultation launched by the government, "told AFP the lawyer of the Breton municipality.

The decree of the mayor of Langouët, already suspended since August, had opened a vast debate in France on the use of pesticides. The government has launched a consultation to ban them near homes and workplaces, but at a distance of only 5 to 10 meters.

This decision of justice taken this Friday, October 25 does not concern only Langouët. Twenty local elected officials had made similar decisions and should also see their decrees refuted by the courts.
