The groundwater levels in southern Östergötland, northern Småland and Gotland have not yet recovered from last summer's extreme drought, says hydrologist Niclas Hjerdt at SMHI.

- It was dry in the summer as well, but above all it was not filled during the winter of 2018/2019.

There are also large differences in the amount of rainfall that the different parts of Sweden receive. Something that affects the groundwater level.

"New" seasons

According to Niclas Hjerdt, there is much to indicate that Sweden will have clearer periods in the future when it rains or snows, and periods when it is dry.
