It was at the end of July this year that a company of four adults and two children went ashore on Askö to have lunch and take a walk, as they had done several times before. This time, they were discovered by the Coast Guard who notified the military and it ended up being charged with suspected of unauthorized access to security objects.

The case is closed

Prosecutor Sara Axelsson wrote the closure decision on Thursday when the trial was to be held.

- There were new circumstances surrounding the case. It is not the entire island that includes the protection object. What you can say is that they were in the border area, but it is not possible that they were actually in the area so I have closed the case, she says.

It is the eastern side of Askö which is a military protection object. The four people had been right at the border.

“Right on the border”

Axelsson believes that it is clearly signposted and that people who visit the holiday island should pay attention.

- If you pass the signs you are in the military area. Other parts of the island are a popular holiday destination, so pay attention.

What penalties can you get if you pass the signs?

- It starts with fines and then it depends on what it is. From fines up to jail, it's a very wide span. There are so many different types of protection items.

"Wouldn't do anything illegal"

Axelsson says these are rare cases and that the penalty value depends on the circumstances.

- There are judgments on it, but it's not something you have every week, but once a year. It is intention and negligence that one takes into account and there makes a weighted assessment.

One of the members of the company is pleased that the case has been closed.

- It's a huge relief. I've never been to a trial before, and we wouldn't do anything illegal.
