On average, the programs have almost three first-hand applicants per educational site.

- The fact that more students choose us in the first place is of course very gratifying, says Ammie Westbeck, head of the admissions and degree section at MDH.

Niche education

The university believes that the growing interest is partly due to an increased interest in higher education, but also that MDH can offer more niche education.

- I think we are following the same trend as the rest of the country where you can see that the demand for education always increases when you are on the path to a recession. At the same time, we have very specific and focused education in technology, health, care and welfare that makes many students apply for us.

Most applicants from Mälardalen

Despite the university's many specializations, it is still the traditional programs that attract the most students. In Eskilstuna, the nursing program and preschool teacher program attract more applicants than last year, and in Västerås the behavioral science program has increased the most.

- When it comes to the more traditional education, we see mainly applicants from the immediate area, Mälardalen, but also some from Stockholm.

MDH hopes that even more students will find them in the future.

- We are applying to become a university, which strengthens our position. And that new campus should attract students.
