In an interview with Daily Nation, Kyle McCarter says he met with Somali President Farmajo. He reportedly asked him to drop the lawsuits in his Nairobi border dispute.

" I went to Mogadishu. I told the Somali president to withdraw his complaint. These are the words of the American ambassador transcribed in the Daily Nation . Kyle McCarter has already said he is in favor of resolving the maritime conflict out of court. But this time, some accuse him of interference and pressure on Somalia, which wants to see the case decided by judges.

The Somali ambassador in Nairobi denied any meeting and accused the Daily Nation of lying. Sapac, an NGO working to bring the United States closer to Somalia, said it had contacted the ambassador. Kyle McCarter is reported to have denied this face-to-face meeting with the Somali head of state. He admitted, however, that he had spoken to his presidential advisers.

In the same interview, the diplomat said he blocked US aid for the Kenyan highway between Nairobi and Mombasa to fight corruption and ease the debt. Senator Aaron Cheruiyot immediately accused him of insincerity.

A former Illinois entrepreneur and senator, Kyle McCarter has never been a diplomat. Since his arrival in January, his statements have sometimes aroused astonishment. In particular, he published a photo of children who came to apply for visas, stating that they could not get the document. On another occasion, it has generated hilarity among Kenyan Internet users by attacking " jokers " who had " the stupid idea " to find a Kenyan woman.
