In Tunis, on Wednesday morning, Kais Saeed was sworn in before the Constituent Assembly, becoming Tunisia's new head of state.

The one who was still unknown to the political class three months ago, a teacher in constitutional law, is today officially President of the Republic. He was sworn in the Assembly and then headed for the Palace of Carthage, where the handover was to take place with Acting President Mohamed Ennaceur.

The new president, in his inaugural speech, proposed that Tunisians donate a working day for five years to help solve the problem of indebtedness. He also stressed the condition of women, who need to see their rights strengthened, in his view, including economic and social rights. He stated that " the dignity of a country is [that] to that of its men and women ".

Kaïs Saïd also emphasized the fight against terrorism and corruption. " No one can be outlaws ," in his words. The new head of state also spoke of heavy responsibility, the need for continuity of the state and respect for the Constitution. A president who remains fairly faithful to his campaign line: do not make promises, insist that he is aware of his responsibilities.

This first investiture speech was solemn and reassuring, in a tense political context, since the president will have to charge the party with the most votes in Parliament, the Ennahdha party, to form a government in the coming days. . This is already a difficult task given the political fragmentation of the new Parliament and the lack of a parliamentary majority. Many challenges and many obstacles that await this new President of the Republic in Tunisia.
